Dear Sir or Madam,

Over 470 abstracts were submitted for the German Congress for Health Services Research – an excellent number, which we never thought would be possible during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this great response, we decided to hold the 19^th DKVF as a digital congress to give the submitted and positively reviewed abstracts the opportunity to still be presented.

The 19^th DKVF DIGITAL will take place from September 30^th to October 1^st, 2020. You can expect two exciting plenary sessions and interactive lecture sessions in six virtual rooms, a digital e-poster exhibition and many other interesting formats.

The digital format allows us to hold the congress without the risk of infection. It is also free of travel costs and therefore sustainable and future-oriented. Even if the virtual format does not allow exchange and networking as usual, it offers other and new opportunities to meet and learn from each other. You can ask questions and exchange ideas in chat rooms during and after the presentations. All congress material will also be available to stream for six months after the congress.

Late-breaking abstract submission for COVID-19-projects

We also want to offer projects, that have been intensely engaged with the impact of the COVID-19-pandemic on health care, a place in our program. Therefore, from July 20^th to August 10^th, we will open another abstract submission for COVID-19-projects. We look forward to your numerous contributions.

Program Highlights

The corona pandemic is also changing health service research. We will address the new requirements for health services research in the two plenary sessions of the congress:

On the first day, Dr. Natasha Azzopardi-Muscat from the WHO Regional Office for Europe will discuss, what European countries can learn from the crisis (and from each other), especially in regards to the assessment of health systems.

On the second day, health service researchers, who are currently working on COVID-19 health service research projects, will discuss how health care research has changed as a result of the COVID-19-pandemic.

We are excited and look forward to experiencing a digital congress with you for the first time, designing it with you and certainly learning for the future!
